The media and technology company Axel Springer joins the European netID Foundation, initiator of Europe’s open login standard netID. The cooperation comprises three central measures. Firstly, Axel Springer will successively integrate the single sign-on solution “netID SSO” in its digital offerings – starting with BILD and WELT. With an existing login to a netID account provider such as WEB.DE or GMX, or with a one-time registration, users can now also access those Axel Springer digital offerings that require a login. Secondly, the media company will use the marketing product “netID Professional” on its websites. This product enables the targeted and cross-device control of content and advertising based on the consent given by the user. Thirdly, Axel Springer will become a member of the Publishing/Marketing Advisory Board of the European netID Foundation.
In addition to the cooperation with the European netID Foundation, Axel Springer remains a shareholder of Verimi. As a result, the company supports two leading European initiatives that offer users complementary services for the secure and transparent management of digital identities.
Samir Fadlallah, Managing Director at Axel Springer News Media National Digital: “Axel Springer recognized early on that the European digital economy needs to develop its own login standards in order to effectively counter the dominance of international platforms. netID and Verimi have developed complementary offerings, both of which provide great added value for users and business partners. We are therefore pleased to be part of the netID partner network for the future – with this move we are providing a strong stimulus, especially in our marketing business “.
Sven Bornemann, CEO of the European netID Foundation, adds: “The commitment of our new partner, Axel Springer, underlines the importance of netID in the German and European market. Both users and advertisers benefit from the attractiveness of Axel Springer media brands such as BILD and WELT”.
The cooperation with Axel Springer SE adds yet another partner to the European netID Foundation portfolio. Companies such as C&A, DPD and Calida, as well as publishing houses such as Gruner + Jahr or Süddeutsche Zeitung, and the digital news network Ippen Digital already use the netID login standard.
