Telekom Deutschland partners with the European netID Foundation, initiator of Europe’s open login standard netID. With Europe’s leading telecommunications company, the foundation expands its circle of partners to include another blue chip. Media and technology companies that already rely on this market standard include Axel Springer, ProSiebenSat.1, RTL Deutschland and United Internet, with its brands WEB.DE and GMX.
As part of the cooperation, Telekom will become a netID account provider from 2021. Users will be able to log in directly to all netID partner sites with their Telekom accounts, without having to register again. In addition, Deutsche Telekom will sit on the European netID Foundation Board of Trustees, the foundationís highest decision-making body: Nils Stamm, Chief Digital Officer of Telekom Deutschland, will be the new member.
“The partnership with Telekom sends a strong signal: the industry is setting new market standards. This is the only way we can quickly free ourselves from third-party cookies in online marketing and, at the same time, establish our independence from the walled gardens of US giants. Strong partners such as Deutsche Telekom are taking decisive action here,” says Sven Bornemann, CEO of the European netID Foundation.
“Telekom Deutschland and the European netID Foundation share one central perspective: the customer or user is always the focus of our attention. This is a fundamental aspect of our corporate philosophy. With netID, users always retain sovereignty over their data and decide themselves how the data is used and passed on. We want to offer this service to our customers and strengthen the European digital industry with netID,” adds Nils Stamm, Chief Digital Officer of Telekom Deutschland GmbH.
